From Mahler to Manhattan closes our Smith Square season

We brought our 2025/26 season at Smith Square Hall to a close with From Mahler to Manhattan, joined by Irish mezzo-soprano Niamh O’Sullivan.
The programme travelled from the intimacy of Alma Mahler and Richard Strauss to the unmistakable sounds of Gershwin, Porter and Sondheim, bringing together orchestral song, musical theatre and music from both sides of the Atlantic.
It was a joy to welcome Niamh alongside Fantasia’s musicians for a programme that moved between these contrasting musical worlds.
Reviewing the concert for The Arts Desk, David Nice highlighted violinist Samuel Staples and his playing alongside Niamh:
“...Samuel Staples, whom I last met as a young aspiring professional, played the violin solo more exquisitely than I’ve ever heard, and the novelty of a mezzo weaving her line at first underneath made this very special indeed.”
The concert marked the end of a brilliant season of music at Smith Square and a fitting finale to our 2025/26 programme.
